Tumaren’s seven spacious tents offer modern comforts such as convenient lighting, ensuite bathrooms, and expansive views of Laikipia and the passing wildlife. Wildlife enthusiasts can opt for thrilling game drives or walks while others might simply relax and watch the animal traffic at the waterhole in front of camp. A 20-meter pool also faces the plains for added relaxation. Each tent provides a couples accommodation, while four other tents can accommodate families. Tumaren offers the perfect blend of comfort and adventure, making it an ideal destination to experience Laikipia and Kenya's best conservation success story.

Tumaren Ranch

Tumaren Ranch was once land utilized exclusively for livestock. When Kerry and Jamie purchased the land they began managing for wildlife instead including Laikipia’s endangered species, such as Grevy’s Zebra, Wilddog and lions. Recovery was immediate and plains game increased sharply and our Reticulated Giraffe, Oryx and Eland began assembling in larger and larger herds.  The predators began asserting their presence too and the Elephant herds that once just passed through began stopping for longer, eventually making Tumaren a preferred maternity for giving birth to their young.

Activities

We excel in the kinds of adventure that etch themselves in the memory drive and enhance the bigger-picture safari experience. Walking and tracking are our specialties but so too is rock climbing on the many grand rock kopjes around our part of Laikipia. Beading or biking or ultimate frisbee in a dry river bed against our local school team are all options as well. See below for all the options.

Our Story

Kerry Glen and Jamie Christian conceived Tumaren Camp as their family home. Guided by the wisdom of a Maasai Elder friend, the location was carefully chosen to ensure the well-being of their cherished camels. Little did they anticipate that the area's suitability for their camels would be a prelude – the serene plains before the camp, amidst beautiful light, unfolded as a haven for an abundance for wildlife. Happenstance propagated an indelible fondness for the nature and serenity of the area and this was the origin of Tumaren Camp.

Community

We are deeply committed to community support, actively engaging in the empowerment of local individuals. Our initiatives include employing and training community members in various fields such as tourism, farm management, security, and mechanics. As one of the primary employers for the Olmotiok and Koija group ranches, we contribute significantly to the local workforce.

Moreover, our safaris go beyond exploration; they contribute directly to the community through conservation fees. This income serves as a vital source for areas with limited revenue streams. Tumaren not only provides seasonal dry grazing but also employment opportunities and supplementary meals for neighboring schools. In this way, we play a crucial role in enabling local communities to realize the tangible benefits that stem from wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism.
