Walking

We specialize in walking safaris, and our genuine love for walking shines through in our approach. On foot, we tap into senses that can stay unengaged in a vehicle, and provide a uniquely immersive experience. We often draw a parallel to exploring a large city – just as it's challenging to truly grasp the cities’ essence solely from a vehicle, so too the African bush can remain out of grasp from a car. Our walks allow visitors to stand before towering megafauna so rare in the world today, but as well, the diverse small creatures and ecology that call this part of Laikipia home.

Tracking

Renowned for their expertise, our Ndorobo trackers stand among the continent’s finest. Tracking is an ancient human skill but one that has been largely lost in a modern world. Despite that, it plays a significant role in every walk we undertake. Our walks often involve deciphering the tales imprinted in the soil by the diversity of animals that traverse our area. It's customary for us to track predators, particularly big cats until we are able to get a look or even a photograph.

Rock-climbing

Rock climbing has been a core element of our guiding services since we began doing safaris. Utilizing the 'top rope' technique from paired drilled anchors, we offer a range of set routes suitable for both novice and seasoned climbers. Safety is paramount, and we adhere to the highest standards by employing excellent equipment that is frequently replaced. To further ensure the well-being of our climbers, our routes, equipment, and techniques undergo routine audits conducted by certified climbing instructors.

Riding Camels

On all our safaris, riding camels play an integral role. Beyond serving as mounts, they carry snacks, water, and additional baggage for added convenience. These camels accompany walkers, providing support during mobile trips when our camp camels take a more direct route to the next camp. Riding camels are particularly cherished by children, offering a delightful respite when fatigue sets in. This allows parents to extend their walks beyond the limits of smaller legs, creating a more enjoyable and flexible experience for families.

Birdwatching

Nestled in Eastern Laikipia, our region is a haven for an extraordinary array of bird species found in Kenya. From lowland varieties arriving from the east to those typical of higher altitudes, our area boasts a remarkable diversity. We have some excellent bird specific guides and we would be delighted to accompany avid birdwatchers on excursions to spot some of our unique and special avian inhabitants.

Kimanjo and Oldonyo Nyiro Markets

Every week the Kimanjo or Oldonyo Nyiro markets come alive and are a highly anticipated social gathering for our community. More than just a marketplace, it serves as a vibrant hub for commerce and the opportunity to reconnect with neighbors residing at a considerable distance. While at the markets, we immerse ourselves in the diverse offerings – from livestock sales to a spectrum of services, including solar-powered barbershops and traditional medicine outlets. It's a chance not only learn about what is traded but also to absorb the rich tapestry of daily life and community dynamics in Kimanjo.

School Visit

A visit to our local primary or secondary schools is consistently fulfilling. Interacting with children who, despite limited resources, exhibit an insatiable thirst for education, is both heartening and reassuring. During our visits, we engage with student clubs, delving into subjects chosen by our guests or aligned with their professions and interests. On certain occasions, we bring along models or educational toys to assemble collectively as a team. The overarching goal is a shared learning experience, fostering new connections and, hopefully, expanding knowledge for everyone involved. Embracing a casual and enjoyable approach, we strive to cultivate a positive and interactive learning environment for all.

Fishing

We have a genuine passion for fishing, and Kenya offers exceptional opportunities, ranging from high-country trout to large ocean-going species. While our safaris can include catfish and barbel fishing upon request, our specialty lies in curating side trips focused on specific species, such as Nile Perch, Mt Kenya Trout, Tigerfish, and saltwater species. Whether you're an avid angler or a novice, our goal is to create a tailor-made fishing experience that aligns with your preferences and captures the thrill of diverse fishing adventures in Kenya.

Ultimate Frisbee and Football with Ol Motiok School

Regularly, we orchestrate football and Ultimate Frisbee games with students from our local high school and primary school. These spirited matches can be arranged alongside visits to Kimanjo School or Olmotiok School, which we actively support in various ways, or they can be spontaneous, fun matches set against the backdrop of a dry riverbed. Sports provide a universal language for different cultures to connect over a shared passion, and our guests frequently express that these friendly football matches stand out as some of the most cherished memories from their safari experiences.
